Online lessons offer a highly effective and flexible approach to learning. With the use of a camera, students and tutors engage face-to-face in real time, fostering a personal and interactive experience. Each lesson is thoughtfully organised and tailored to ensure key learning objectives are met while accommodating the student’s pace and needs. Our platform integrates interactive tools, encouraging active participation and immediate feedback. What are the 9-1 grade boundaries?
The 9-1 grading system, used in GCSE's, replaces the traditional A*-G grades. 9 is the highest attainable grade, surpassing the former A*, while a grade of 1 is the lowest. Grades 9-4 are considered pass grades, with 4 being equivalent to the old C grade.
This system allows for more differentiation at the top end of the grading scale. We make sure all our students confidently understand these grade boundaries and work towards achieving their highest potential within this framework.
For a more detailed explanation of the 9-1 grading system and a visual comparison of the old and new grades, please refer to this Ofqual blog on the government website.
How often should a GCSE student revise?
On average, GCSE students should aim to revise for approximately 10-15 hours per week, spread across all subjects. This can be broken down into daily sessions of 1-2 hours, allowing time for in-depth focus on specific topics while avoiding overwhelm. As exam season approaches, the frequency and intensity of revision should increase, ensuring that all topics are thoroughly reviewed. It's also important to incorporate breaks and maintain a balanced routine to avoid burnout and demotivation, allowing students to absorb and retain information effectively.
Tuition lessons play a significant role in this process, contributing to a portion of the weekly revision. Our sessions are designed to reinforce key concepts, clarify challenging topics, and provide structured guidance, helping students make the most of their independent study time.
Are mock exams important?
Mock exams are a crucial part of a student’s academic journey. For GCSE students, mock results are often sent as part of sixth form and college applications, providing an early indication of potential final grades. During A-Levels, mock exams are integral to apprenticeship and UCAS application processes, as predicted grades, often based on mock results, are submitted, influencing whether you will be allocated a conditional or unconditional offer.
Mocks also help determine the appropriate tier for subjects with tiered exams and provide insight into a student’s progress, strengths, and areas that need improvement. Consistently revising and making a strong effort prior to mock exams is highly recommended, as these exams are not only a practice run but can significantly impact your academic path. Furthermore, they help develop crucial exam techniques and build confidence ahead of the final exams.
